(500) Christian Felber is a writer, university lecturer and contemporary dancer in Vienna. He is the initiator of the “Economy for the Common Good“ and the “Cooperative for the Common Good“. Several bestsellers include “Change everything. Creating an Economy for the Common Good“ and “Money. The new rules of the game“, which was awarded the getAbstract International Book Award 2014. The “Economy for the Common Good” received the ZEIT-Wissen Award in 2017 and made it 2021 to the SPIEGEL bestseller list.

The Economy for the Common Good – a new sustainable and holistic economic model – started in 2010 as a bottom-up movement in Austria, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland; it is now reaching out internationally. It’s core is the reorientation of economic activities to the common good, measuring success with a Common Good Prouduct (national level), Common Good Balance Sheet (companies) and a Common Good Exam (investments). The more companies contribute to the common good (the less costs and the more benefits they externalize), the fewer taxes they pay, the freer they trade, the easier they get access to finance and public procurement contracts. The systemic design of the economy provides for equal rights, just distribution and the respect of the ecological planetary boundaries. More than a mere theory, the Economy for the Common Good is also a practical process formed by thousands of individuals, companies, universities, municipalities, and cities! La economía del bien común es un modelo económico alternativo a las grandes narrativas capitalismo y comunismo. Se basa en los mismos valores que hacen florecer nuestras relaciones: honestidad, empatía, confianza, cooperación y compartir, además de los valores fundamentales de las constituciones democráticas: dignidad, solidaridad, justicia, sostenibilidad, y co-determinación. Las reglas del juego legales cambian de afán de lucro y competencia a cooperación y contribución al bien común. El éxito económico no es medido por indicatores monetarios como el beneficio y rédito financiero o el BIP, sino con el balance del bien común (a nivel de empresas) y el producto del bien común (a nivel de sistema). Cuanto más social, ecológica, democrática y solidaria sea la actividad de una empresa, mayores serán las ventajas legales. Por fin, las “leyes del mercado” estarán en concordancia con los valores de la sociedad. Más allá de la corrección de este “error de sistema”, la EBC propone la limitación de la desigualdad y que las actividades económicas sólo se realicen dentro de los límites ecológicos del Planeta. El movimiento nació en 2010 en Austria y se ha difundido a 33 países desde entonces, constituyéndose de personas, empresas, municipios, ciudades y regiones. Todo el mundo está bienvenido a involucrarse y co-crear la visión.
