A new Working Paper from the Cologne International Business School (CBS) “A New Paradigm for the EU’s Global Trade Strategy: Ethical World Trade and Economy for the Common Good” presents a visionary proposal for the reorganization of world trade in line with the values and goals of the UN and the EU.

“Ethical World Trade” is inscribed in the broader framework of an ‘Economy for the Common Good’. It represents an alternative to free trade, but also to the current trends towards neo-protectionism and economic geopolitics. The new paradigm turns trade into a means at the service of the actual goals: from peace to human rights to democracy to sustainable development to cultural diversity to tax justice. As a consequence, Ethical World Trade would help resolving the global social, ecological and democracy crises.

The Working Paper is co-published by three renowned international civil society organizations: the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll) and the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO).
